The 2008 Festival Of Model Tramways


The Festival of Model Tramways is Europe's premier event for the model tram enthusiast.

The next Festival will be on Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th July 2008 at the Museum of Transport, Boyle Street, Manchester, M8 8UL.

Admission is at the charges of Adult £6.50, Senior (over 65) £5.50, Children (under 16) free if accompanied. Opening times are 10am to 5pm.

Now in its twentieth year, the Festival features the highest quality model tramway layouts and displays. There are sales stands to supply the modeller with all the necessary materials, kits, drawings, photographs, books etc., for model tram building. There is a competition, with a trophy given for the best model tram of the show (no competition entry fee, just bring along your models).

In previous years the exhibition has alternated between the Kew Bridge Steam Museum and venues further north such as the National Tramway Museum at Crich in Derbyshire, the Birmingham and Midland Museum of Transport at Wythall and the Manchester Museum of Transport, now our regular northern venue. The 1998 Festival, held in Fleetwood, was one of the events held to celebrate the centenary of the Blackpool and Fleetwood Tramroad.

There will be a free heritage bus service every 20 minutes between Manchester Victoria station approach (opposite the taxi rank) and the Festival. Some will also serve the tramway at Heaton Park, where you can view the newly restored Eades reversible horse tram, which hopefully will be running on Saturday 19th. The nearest Metrolink stop to the Festival is Woodlands Road.
